Setting up Subject Classes

In order to work with subject classes, they first need to be set up. Use the Setup Subject Classes screen for this. Subject classes have the following elements:

  • Name - Give the form class a unique name (e.g. Science 8H-1).
  • Description - Give the form class an apt description (e.g. First grade 8 science class taken on the higher level).
  • Venue - Select the classroom where the subject class is to meet for tuition.
  • Subject - Select the subject taught.
  • Available Learners - All learners that have already indicated they wish to take this subject are displayed in the Available Learners list box for selection. They can be simply dragged and dropped into class seating positions. You can change the seating positions of your class members. Moving one learner onto another will simply swap the learners. If you wish to drop class members, simply drag the member back onto the Available Learners list box.
  • Educator - A member of staff can be selected to teach the class and enter marks.
  • Timetable - The meeting times of the class must be established.
  • Calendar - Calendar events, such as class outings can be planned for at this stage (or later on when working with the class itself).

Working with Subject Classes

If you are an educator user or power user, you can go through to your subject class or classes. If you have more than one class, you must first select which class you want to work with, otherwise your one and only class will automatically be shown. You can do the following:

  • Seating Positions - You can change the seating positions of your class members. Moving one learner onto another will simply swap the learners. If you wish to add or drop class members, you need to go back to the Setup Subject Classes screen.
  • Record Marks - Individual marks (along with relevant comments) can be recorded. Since TS School allows you to comment on individual tests, learners can be strictly monitored and developed.
  • Attendance - Attendance can be taken.
  • Timetable - Class meeting times can be viewed/printed out.
  • Calendar - Calendar events can be scheduled from time to time (initial scheduling could also have been done when the subject class itself was first created).
